Are you hesitant to smile because of your teeth?

Avoiding smiles because of yellowed or crooked teeth could be holding you back in life. A smile is often the first step toward a new friendship or making someone’s day brighter.

Countless studies have proven that a smile can elevate your mood and have short and long-term benefits to your overall health.

At Grant Hinze DDS, we have the tools to give you the confidence to smile. Here are three common cosmetic dental procedures performed in our office:

  • Teeth Whitening

Dr. Hinze said patients often ask about bleaching or whitening.

Over the years, teeth can become stained and worn from food, drinks or smoking.

First, he always recommends that patients try simple inexpensive solutions like toothpastes with whiteners or whitening strips.

“If that still doesn’t work, we do have some bleaching tools that are more aggressive,” he said.

  • Orthodontic Work

“We try to make the smile fit the face,” Dr. Hinze said.

If a patient has top teeth that protrude over the bottom bite or other conditions, Dr. Hinze can perform orthodontic work that decreases the overbite or changes the shape of the smile. It may involve wearing headpieces, braces or other mouth apparatus.

The other obvious benefit of braces or orthodontic work is the straightening of crooked teeth.

Orthodontics can benefit people of all ages, not just children or teens.

  • Teeth Shaping and Composite Bonding

Dr. Hinze has solutions for patients whose teeth are too small (maybe from grinding teeth at night) or for patients who think their teeth are too big.

For tiny teeth, Dr. Hinze can add composite bonding, which is a material that resembles the color of the tooth enamel and can be applied to the tooth and then cured with a high-intensity light. He can shape teeth to be square or oval, depending on the patient’s preference.

For teeth that appear too large, Dr. Hinze can reshape the tooth by shaving it or removing small amounts of enamel to alter the tooth’s length or shape.

Dr. Hinze said cosmetic dentistry can have a big influence in patient’s lives.

“It gives them more confidence, and they are probably going to smile more,” Dr. Hinze said.
